Conduction Cooled Single, Dual, or Quad Channel MIL-STD-1553 Interface for PCI Mezzanine (PMC)
Datasheet
General Features
The PMC-1553 module is a rugged, reliable, full featured PCI Mezzanine (PMC) module designed to provide a stand-alone, flight ready MIL-STD-1553A/B interface for avionics applications. Up to four independent dual redundant MIL-STD-1553 databus streams are provided on the PMC-1553 module. Additionally, the PMC-1553 offers full functional Test, Simulation, Monitoring, and databus analyzer functions for MIL-STD-1553A/B applications.
An onboard IRIG-B time code decoder and generator allows users to accurately synchronize single or multiple PMC-1553 modules to a common time source.
The PMC-1553 modules utilize a simple, reliable, high performance FPGA based hardware architecture that features an embedded onboard PowerPC and the highest data throughput rates in the industry on a flexible platform that can be easily adapted to meet a wide range of application needs. The PMC-1553 cards are configured with 128 MBytes of onboard memory, providing ample capacity to support high volumes of data and complex simulations.
The PMC-1553 modules offer both Transformer Coupling and Direct Coupling to the data buses. Additionally, the PMC-1553 modules can be mounted on any of AIM-USA’s family of advanced carriers to provide PCI, PCIe, cPCI, cPCIe, VME, and VXI solutions.
Ten fully software programmable, as input or output, TTL discrete I/O lines are provided. TTL voltage levels are externally setable up to 30 Volts.
Application software can access the PMC-1553 modules via AIM-USA’s common MIL-STD-1553 C/C++ Object Wrapper Layer (OWL) high level application programmer’s interface.
Bus Controller
The PMC-1553 modules provide Real-Time Bus Controller functions on one, two, or four dual redundant MIL-STD-1553A/B buses concurrently with Multiple RT and Chronological Monitor operation.
- Autonomous operation including sequencing of Minor/Major Frames
- Acyclic message insertion/deletion
- Programmable BC Retry without host interaction
- Full Error Injection down to word and bit level (AS4112 Compliant)
- Multi-buffering with Real Time Data Buffer Updates
- Synchronisation of BC operation to external trigger inputs
Multiple Remote Terminal
The PMC-1553 modules, simulate up to 31 Remote Terminals, including all sub addresses on each MIL-STD-1553A/B Channel, concurrently with BC and Chronological Monitor Operation. Alternatively each of the 31 RT’s can operate in pasive receive only mode to monitor non-simulated RT’s. Key features of the Remote Terminal Simulation Mode include:
- Programmable Response Time for Each RT.
- Programmable & Intelligent Response to Mode Codes
- Full Error Injection down to word and bit level (AS4112 compliant)
- Multi-Buffering with Real Time Data Buffer Updates
Chronological Bus Monitor
The PMC-1553 modules offer full bus monitoring and analysis with time tagging of all bus traffic to 1usec resolution, including response time and gap time measurement down to 8 nsec concurrently with BC and Multiple RT operation.
Key features of the Chronological Bus Monitor:
- 100% Data Capture on each Channel
- Autonomous message synchronization and
- Full Error Detection
- Two Dynamic Complex Triggers with sequencing
- Message Filter and Selection Capture
- Bus Activity recording independent from trigger and capture mode
- External Trigger Outputs
- Programmable Response Time Out
Physical Bus Interface
The PMC-1553 modules provide Transformer Coupling and Direct Coupling for connection to the bus. Both coupling modes are available at the front panel connector or at the back-panel.
Physical Bus Replay
The PMC-1553 modules can electronically reconstruct previously recorded MIL-STD-1553A/B Databus traffic physically to the Bus. Recorded data files can be selected for a physical Bus replay to perform system integration and test with the ability to disable any or all RT responses from the recorded files.
Discrete I/O
The PMC-1553 modules provide 10 fully programmable (as input or output) discrete lines. Each discrete line is capable of TTL signalling. Additionally, output lines can driver up to 30V signals with an external supply and input lines are able to accept up to 30V signals.
IRIG-B Time Code Decoder
An onboard IRIG-B time code decoder and generator allows synchronized time tagging of multiple MIL-STD-1553A/B streams using single or multiple PMC-1553 modules. PMC-1553 cards can be synchronized to one common external IRIG-B time source or to the free-wheeling onboard Time Code Generator.
Driver Software
The PMC-1553 modules are supplied with Board Support Packages (BSP) for Windows 2000/XP/ME, Linux, and various embedded real time systems (VxWorks, Green Hills, LynxOS, ...) upon request. Drivers, sample code, high level C and C++ interface libraries, and documentation are provided.
Application Interface
In support of Application program interfaces to the PMC-1553, the modules are supplied with AIM-USA’s MIL-STD-1553 Object Wrapper Layer (OWL) C and C++ interface library. The MIL-STD-1553 OWL provides an intuitive and easy to use object oriented interface to the module. Adaptations supporting C#, Python and other common programming languages are available upon request. A rich suite of sample applications and full documentation is provided.
Application Support Processor
An onboard, 250MHz, PowerPC Application Support Processor (ASP) is provided to support time critical user application functions and interrupt service routines. User code can be downloaded to and executed on the ASP.
